It was around May, 1996, Sega of America announced the production of the Saturn's biggest title. A true and real Sonic game the failing Sega Saturn needed to bring up out of the ashes. Sonic X-treme was also set to go head on with Super Mario 64 that was currently being made for the Nintendo 64.
Sonic was going to be in True 3D for the first time ever... he was going to have a new selection of new moves, which still today haven't been in any Sonic games, also along with some returning moves. Also new characters, new worlds and new and returning boss characters all making 3D and even Home Consoles.
However, one problem lead to another with the game getting into finished pile... the team that was making the game was trying to finish the game in time for the Christmas rush, in which doing that they were overworked and even living out of the office in which they were making the games.
The game wasn't nearly in time for Christmas, so it was delayed to Summer of the next year, but a playable demo of E3 did not go over well at all... while the game was a breakthrew in graphics and the game looked great, the controls and the gameplay itself was too hard... then after each member of the team started to leave, it was then doomed that the game would never get finished, and when the final blow came from Sega of Japan, that was it.
The information and programing of the game did lead to the game, Sonic 3D Blast, but it wasn't nearly enough to work over gammers and so the Saturn Died and now Sonic X-Treme just leaves Questions and in the minds of fans, it's also a good source of rumor and intrigue on the net.
